Encamp is located high in the Pyrenees and is connected to the Grandvalira ski area by a 210-kilometer (130 mi) route that passes through Andorra. Skiers eager to hit the slopes keep it busy during the winter. Since encamp is a rest point on the trans-Pyrenees GR11 hiking trail, hikers take over in the summer. Here is our selection of the top lodging options, which range from spa hotels to mountain chalets.
Casa Rural de les Arnes
This stone-and-wood home in Encamp’s historical core, besides the Romanesque church, is the ideal location for two couples on a skiing trip. There are two double bedrooms inside that are furnished with reclaimed wood and exposed stone walls, as well as an open-concept kitchen and living room with a cozy fireplace and a slanted, vaulted ceiling. A small, furnished terrace with a BBQ is also there. It takes five minutes to walk to the Grandvalira ski resort’s cable car stop.
Hotel Guillem
Are you seeking adventure? This four-star, sports-focused hotel provides a wide variety of outdoor pursuits, including fishing, hiking, zip-lining, and climbing via Ferrata. Visit the sauna or the heated indoor pool after sundown. A few of the rooms and suites enjoy views of the hamlet and mountains and can accommodate two to five guests. The on-site restaurant serves a breakfast buffet as well as Andorran and Mediterranean cuisine for the evening.
Apartaments del Meligar
These contemporary, self-catered rentals on the outskirts of Encamp’s historic district will appeal to families. Just a three-minute stroll will bring you to an outdoor pool and a recreation area with beach football, volleyball, and a kids’ play area. The apartments are available in three different sizes: studios, one-bedroom units that sleep four people, and two-bedroom units that sleep six people. On-street parking is accessible right outside.
Casa Rural Borda de Molla
As its name suggests, this lodge is somewhat remote. The building features floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the valley floor and is perched high up on a mountainside. Take off your ski boots in the winter and curl up by the fireplace. It is perfect for families or groups of friends because it has two double bedrooms, one of which can be changed into a triple bedroom. By including a barbeque and a dog house, you can make the most of your garden during the summer.
Les Pardines
The Michelin-starred Catalan chef Oriol Rovira is in charge of this rustic mountain lodge’s menu, which features products from his farm and orchard. But more than simply the food will draw you in. A spa featuring massage rooms, an indoor pool, a jacuzzi, and a thermal shower can be found on the ground floor. All room rates come with breakfast, and if you reserve a suite or superior suite, you’ll also get an hour in the spa for free.
Grau Roig Boutique Hotel
This chic 42-room hotel, which formerly served as a mountain hideaway, is now a boutique hotel. Even the ski room is stylish, including boot warming, lockers, and easy access to the Grandvalira slopes. Book a table at La Marmita for a tasting meal that has been thoughtfully curated, or at La Fromagerie for cheesy Alpine favorites like fondue and raclette. It takes 25 minutes to go to Encamp.
Hotel Mila
Hotel Mila is a straightforward, welcoming hotel with a view of Encamp that offers economical lodging. Even though the accommodations are sparse, you won’t be staying long. The Grandvalira cable car is only a five-minute walk away, so grab your skis. Take an off-road 44 excursion via mountain passes in the summer; the scenery is worth it. With a continental breakfast in the morning and a drink in the hotel bar at night, the staff will be pleased to fill you in on the area’s top attractions.
Montecarlo Hotel
The accommodating personnel at this traditional mountain lodge will be happy to book guided hikes, ski passes, and equipment rentals, as well as admission to one of the biggest thermal baths in Europe, which is just a 10-minute drive away. Aiming at families or groups of friends, the hotel’s rooms range from straightforward singles to quadruples, and breakfast is included. Try Burger Brother’s next door as well; the bacon cheeseburger is amazingly good. The on-site restaurant serves excellent traditional Andorran food.
