Bentley
Bentley Motors Limited is a luxury car designer, manufacturer, and marketer based in the United Kingdom. In 1919, W. O. Bentley (1888-1971) established Bentley Motors Limited in Cricklewood, North London. Crewe, England, serves as the company’s headquarters. Bentley has been a Volkswagen Group subsidiary since 1998, and it will be merged with VW’s premium brand arm Audi in 2022.
The iconic models range from the historic sports-racing Bentley 4 and Bentley Speed Six to the more recent Bentley R Type Continental, Bentley Turbo R, and Bentley Arnage, as well as its current model line, which includes the Flying Spur, Continental GT, Bentayga, and Mulsanne—all of which are sold globally, with China being the largest market as of July 2021.The wings were streamlined when Bentley was owned by Rolls Royce in the 1930s, with the downward-pointing feathers straightened out to become horizontal. Each wing was also given 10 feathers, removing the asymmetry of the original. The Bentley logo was updated again in the 1990s, with the asymmetry restored and the central ‘B’ revised to match the original. Then, in 2002, a definitive new corporate identity, including the winged ‘B’ that is still in use today, was created, one that embodies modern Bentley values while remaining true to its roots.
Rolls-Royce
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited, founded in 1998, is a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW. BMW obtained the rights to the Rolls-Royce brand name and logo from Rolls-Royce PLC, and Volkswagen AG acquired the rights to the Spirit of Ecstasy and Rolls-Royce grill shape trademarks. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited is a global manufacturer and distributor of luxury automobile parts, as well as a vehicle engineer. Volkswagen AG’s Bentley Motors Limited subsidiary is the direct successor to Rolls-Royce Motors and various other predecessor entities that produced Rolls-Royce and Bentley branded cars between the companies’ founding. In 2003, the first product offered for sale was the Rolls-Royce Phantom four-door sedan.
Since 1906, Rolls Royce has been in use. BMW AG’s Rolls-Royce Motor Cars subsidiary has no direct connection to Rolls-Royce branded vehicles manufactured prior to 2003. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited operates from purpose-built administrative and production facilities in Good wood, West Sussex, England, United Kingdom, which were opened in 2003 across from the historic Good wood Circuit. Since 2003, Rolls-Royce Motors Cars Limited has been the sole manufacturer of Rolls-Royce branded automobiles. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has expanded its product lineup since 2003 to include the Phantom sedan, Phantom two-door coupé, Phantom convertible version, Ghost four-door sedan, and Wraith two-door coupe.
Maybach
Maybach Motorenbau is a defunct German automobile manufacturer that now exists as a Mercedes-Benz sub-brand. Wilhelm Maybach and his son founded the company in 1909 as a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH, and it was known as Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH until 1912.
Daimler-Benz purchased Maybach in 1960. In the late twentieth century, the brand reappeared as a standalone ultra-luxury car brand, sharing significant components with Mercedes-Benz. After a period of slow sales, the Maybach name reappeared as a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, which is owned by Daimler AG. Under the Mercedes-Maybach brand, Daimler currently produces an ultra-luxury edition of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
In the early 2000s, Maybach becomes one of Mercedes-luxury Benz’s vehicles. The double Ms in the Maybach logo are an abbreviation for Maybach Motorenbau, and they also reveal the swastika symbol, as stated in Dr. Rex Curry’s note.
Lagonda
Lagonda is a British luxury car manufacturer that was founded in 1906 and has been owned by Aston Martin since 1947. The brand has had a sporadic presence in the luxury car market throughout its history, most recently from 1995 to 2008 and again from 2010 to 2013. Wilbur Gunn (1859-1920), a former Scottish opera singer, founded Lagonda in Staines, Surrey, in 1906. He obtained British citizenship in 1891 and worked as a speed boat and motorcycle engineer in Staines, England. Lagonda was named after the Shawnee settlement in modern-day Springfield, Ohio, where he was born.
On March 9, 2011, Aston Martin confirmed the revival of the Lagonda brand. The new lineup will initially focus on high-end SUVs. However, in 2014, Aston Martin announced the Taraf, a large, low-bodied saloon version that would be sold exclusively in the Middle East.
